This project aims at identification and reduction of air emissions from ships, especially in part load and transient operational conditions. To reach this goal, first emission factors of energy related emissions will be optimized by means of simulation methodology, on the basis of experimental measurement.

Second, new technologies, which have been recognized to be useful in reducing energy related emissions are investigated. Their efficiency, extra cost and additional impact to environment are included. Third, a comparison on air emissions is made of each of the transport modes (ship, truck train. Finally, the system related and cargo related emission are evaluated.

Specifically, the following part studies are foreseen:

  • Simulation of ship operational profile
  • Simulation of ship emission profile
  • Simulation of ton-mile specific emission factors
  • Recommendation of available emission reduction technologies
  • Comparison of each transport modes
  • Evaluation of system related emissions
  • Evaluation of cargo related emissions
